Results and Investigations
Many test result, medication, and referral queries can be dealt with by the reception, dispensary, or medical secretary teams.

Fasting Blood Tests
Fasting glucose
- Non- Diabetic patients – fast for 12 hours prior to test
- Diabetic patients (insulin) – fast for 10 hours prior to test.
Have nothing to eat and only drink plain water (unflavoured). Unless otherwise instructed, you should continue to take your medication as normal.
Fasting Lipids
- Non-Diabetic patients – fast for 14 hours prior to test
- Diabetic patients (tablets) – fast for 12 hours prior to test
- Diabetic patients (insulin) – fast for 10 hours prior to test
Have nothing to eat and only drink plain water (unflavoured). Unless otherwise instructed, you should continue to take your medication as normal.
Homocysteine
- Do not eat meat for 12 hours prior to the test
Glucose tolerance test
- Have nothing to eat and only drink plain water (unflavoured) for a period of 12 Hours prior to the test. Unless otherwise instructed, you should continue to take your medication as normal.
- After the first blood test you will be given a glucose drink. You rest and fast for a further 2 hours then have a second blood test.
