Care Quality Commission (CQC)

It is a requirement for all organisations who provide care to be registered with CQC. Comberton surgery is registered with CQC for all regulated activities. CQC carries out inspections of organisations on a regular basis. Comberton surgery’s inspection was carried out in April 2018.

Staff have specific areas of responsibility:

  • Safeguarding – Dr Wheatley (deputy Dr Gathern)
  • Caldicott Guardian – Dr Mills
  • Prescribing – Dr Kent
  • Diabetes – Dr Mills
  • Asthma and COPD – Dr Mills and Janice Mills
  • Palliative Care – Dr Wheatley
  • Infection Control – Philippa O’Brien
  • QOF – Dr Mills
  • CQC accountable person – Dr Gathern
  • Elderly care – Dr Shepherd

The surgery is very pleased to have received a ‘good’ rating from CQC in all areas.

We would like to apologize to all our patients for the unacceptably slow service from the dispensary. We are aware that we have been unable to fulfil the turnaround times for repeat prescriptions that we had promised, and we are also aware that many patients have had to queue for long periods of time to collect their medication.

We have been facing unprecedented demand at a time when we are looking to recruit a new dispensary manager and when we have had high levels of staff sick leave.

Please be assured that we are taking active steps to improve the dispensary and we hope to be able to provide a better service in the New Year.
